Dress Code Policy
All students at Smythe Academy must enter and leave Smythe in Dress Code every day. P.E. Uniforms may only be worn during P.E.
Dress Code Description
- ALL shirts must be SOLID White, Black, or dark Forest Green polo.
- ALL shirts must have a Polo-style collar. Polo-style collars have 1-4 buttons and a collar that turns over around the neck.
- Official Smythe Spirit Wear shirts may also count as a dress code compliant shirt. Smythe clubs, enrichment, sports, or event related shirts may be worn on Fridays or the day of a related event (MESA, AVID, Robotics, leadership, etc).
- ALL pants/shorts/skirts/dresses must be khaki and tan/beige in color. Pants must fit around the waist; no ‘bagging’ or ‘sagging’ will be allowed. If pants are too large around the student’s waist, they must wear a belt. Pants must also be large enough for students to pull up to their waist. Joggers, sweats, and leggings are not part of the dress code.
- PE uniforms, such as sweatpants and PE shirts, are allowed during PE only. No PE uniforms are allowed during regular classes.
- ALL shorts and skirts must be minimally long enough to extend beyond the student's down-stretched fingers. If the shorts/skirt is too short, the student will be asked to change or detained in the office until a change of clothes is brought to school.
- ALL outerwear – including coats, sweaters, hoodies, and accessories (scarves, snow hats, caps, etc.) must not contain images or language that is vulgar, sexually suggestive, discriminatory, obscene, libelous, or that promotes illegal or violent content, such as the unlawful use of weapons, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, drug paraphernalia, gangs, or that contains threats, is prohibited.
- No red or blue clothing, shoes, or accessories.
- 1st violation—Warning
- 2nd violation—Warning
- 3rd violation— Campus Beautification Services or Lunch Detention (LD)
- 4th violation—Call home
- 5th violation— Campus Beautification Services or Lunch Detention (LD) & Call Home
- 6th violation— Behavioral Contract/Meeting with Parents
GIRLS' & BOYS' OUTERWEAR
Coats, sweaters, windbreakers or sweater vests may be worn as long as they do not have any logos or the colors RED or BLUE. Hooded garments and the outerwear coats are not permitted to be worn in the classroom. BASEBALL CAPS ARE NOT PERMITTED.
BACKPACKS
May >not be RED or BLUE. Writing of any sort, including graffiti, nicknames or drawings may not be visible on the outside of backpacks.
ACCESSORIES
RED or BLUE necklace, earrings, headbands or other accessories are not permitted.
FOOTWEAR
Students are encouraged to wear lace-up or Velcro sneakers. Socks should be worn with shoes. Sandals may be worn, but they must have a back strap. Students must have appropriate shoes for P.E. class. Shoelaces may NOT be RED or BLUE.
RELAXED DRESS CODE DAYS
Are held occasionally. On these days students who have had ZERO officice referrals, bus citations or uniforms violations for the month may participate! Students must, however, follow the district dress code as outlined in the District Parent Handbook (see below) and NOT wear RED or BLUE clothing or accessories on Non-Uniform Fridays.
Parents...earn 1 Volunteer Hour for each gently used, outgrown school uniform item donated to our clothes closet.
